First place Award at the Toronto Camera Club, 2019. Crossing The Panama Canal is a short travelogue in photographs, timelapses and video about the crossing. The Canal was a fascinating place to see, but a restrictive place to photograph, as travelers are not allowed to disembark. Consequently, being able to shoot from different viewpoints was sometimes challenging and frustrating, with my mobility being hindered because of it. I tried my best though, moving between decks to the bow and stern of the ship, starboard and portside, as much as I could; leaning as much as safely possible over the deck rails, to avoid obstructions, as well as babysitting my camera, and trying my best to keep it stabilized from the buoyancy of the water, for close to 5 hours, to capture about 600 images at 30 second intervals, to make up the time-lapses seen here. Long exposures were just not possible to do, because of the constant turbulence of being on the water. Being in a true tropical climate, the weather changed erratically from sunshine to rain, but I stayed committed and determined in the name of time-lapsing! I was aboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth for this encounter.
